We believe teachers and students deserve the best. Starting August 1 - September 15, submit a project for the U.S. Cellularฎ Calling All Teachers program, and you could receive a share of the $1 million we're giving away to teachers. In late September and October we'll once again begin to hand out $1 million to public school teachers to make brilliant classroom projects a reality. Starting in August, post your project to bring your classroom dreams to life this school year.

Grant Resource – PTA
Category – Healthy Lifestyles
Description – PTA Healthy Lifestyles promotes good nutrition and regular physical activity in order to address the nation’s childhood obesity epidemic. One-third of American children and youth are either obese or at risk of becoming obese. Increased access to high-calorie good-tasting, inexpensive foods, along with increasingly sedentary lifestyles, has contributed to the rise in childhood obesity. In addition, the reduction and elimination of recess in as many as 40 percent of U.S. school districts has limited students’ physical activity during the school day. The obesity epidemic may not only decrease quality of life with the onset of diabetes, heart disease, and other chronic diseases but also reduce the life expectancy of today’s children. Further, consistent findings show that obesity is often associated with poor levels of academic achievement.Size of Grant - $1,000

Grant Resource – Foundation for Rural Development
Category – Grants for Rural Schools’ Technology
Description – As the role of technology in classrooms grows, it becomes a powerful tool to improve both teaching and learning. Many schools are incorporating new, innovative technology in an effort to help motivate and inspire their students. Their goals include bringing modern computers to every classroom, connecting every classroom to the information superhighway, and making sure that effective and engaging software and online resources will be an integral part of every school curriculum. Many public schools in rural areas lack the resources to obtain new technologies and cannot meet those goals. The Foundation for Rural Education and Development in cooperation with the Rural Telephone Finance Cooperative created the Technology Grants for Rural Schools program to help meet the growing need for innovative technology in the classroom. This grant program provides funding for projects that advance technology and foster cooperation among the telecommunications company, school, and community. Technology Grants are available to public schools that are working in cooperation with their telcos to enhance learning by increasing the use of technology in the classroom. This includes adding new programs and curriculum for technology education and purchasing new equipment.

Description –
CISE’s Research Experiences for Teachers (RET) supplemental awards introduce state-of-the-art computing competencies and knowledge into K-14 classrooms by providing K-14 educators with research experiences at the frontiers of computing.   Encouraging the active participation of teachers in on-going CISE research projects is an excellent way to strengthen the computing expertise of our nation's teachers.  Further, RET supplements help build collaborative relationships between K-14 educators and the CISE research and education community, encouraging the articulation of students interested in pursuing careers in computing between high school and community college, and between high school or community college and baccalaureate education.   The duration of an RET supplement award is generally one year and the project may be carried out during summer months, during the academic year, or both. CISE RET teachers will be invited to participate in an annual CISE-sponsored workshop in the Washington DC area for the purpose of sharing and transferring best practices and materials.
